WHAT IS THE HCG Diet?

The HCG weight loss protocol consists of a very low calorie diet accompanied by treatments injectible of HCG.  The average client experiences rapid weight loss averaging 1- to 3-pounds per day.  In addition to loss of unwanted fat, the true benefit of the HCG protocol is its ability to help modify the dieter's relationship with food and eating, resulting in easily maintained, long-term weight loss.

WHAT IS HCG?

HCG stands for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, a hormone naturally produced by the placenta in pregnant women that controls the metabolic function through the hypothalamus throughout the pregnancy.  One of its functions is to ensure the growing fetus receives enough nutrients to grow and develop normally. It does this by making the abnormal fat stored in the mother's body available for use. The mother's body is then able to use this fat for nutrients and energy despite her intake. This drug is also commonly used for infertility. Contrary to popular belief, however, the HCG used in the HCG diet protocols is a variation of the HCG form medically used for fertility treatments, and in a much smaller dose.  All HCG used for medical purposes is natural, but created in laboratories from sterile cells.  It is NOT extracted from women or animal urine (a common misconception).

HCG is also safe and effective for men to use. The HCG used for the HCG weight loss protocol is actually already found in men.  In fact, it is present in every human tissue, including males and non-pregnant women as well as pregnant.  Dr. ATW Simeons discovered in the 1950′s that small doses of HCG given to overweight individuals (men and women) decreased their appetite and made them lose inches specifically around their hips, thighs, buttocks and stomachs. Today millions of people have used HCG for weight loss. The HCG Diet has also been used for weight loss in obese persons as well as those wanting to shed a few unhealthy or unwanted pounds. HCG for obesity is as common as HCG for general weight loss.

HOW MUCH WEIGHT WILL I LOSE WITH THE HCG DIET?

Most clients report a loss of 1- to 2-pounds per day.  At the very least, 5 pound a weeks, and at the most, 3 pounds a day (1pound is generally lost in the first day).  Factors that guarantee faster weight loss include increasing vegetable intake and mixing salad with each meal.  Fiber intake is extremely important, as is water intake.  Most clients will end up losing around 35 pounds in either our 4-week or 6-week program. For individuals with more weight to lose, there is the option of beginning another 4- or 6-week program but there is a "break-time" in between of 4 weeks. According to Dr. Simeons' book on the HCG diet protocol, forty injections of the hormone are about the maximum effective use because, thereafter, patients begin to show signs of immunity to its effects. Hence the break between phases is introduced in order to allow the body to re-adjust to normal consumption patterns and glandular functions. Staying true to the dietary recommendations during this time is crucial. There are specific instructions in the dietary recommendations as to cooking and what types of vegetables are to be consumed. Water, tea, coffee and mineral water are the only beverages allowed in the original protocol, but it is recommended that at least two liters of liquid be consumer per day. The severely limited diet acting in concert with the effects of HCG creates the HCG diet plan, divided into 4- and 6-week cycles that are designed for maximum effect.

WHAT PREPARATIONS ARE REQUIRED FOR THE HCG PROGRAM?

Prior to treatment, we will request blood tests and perform a general health assessment.  If you are self-injecting, specific sterilizing processes will be involved and certain steps are taken to reduce the discomfort of injections. The injections are given one time every day in a very low dose and most clients feel absolutely nothing at all when giving themselves the injection.

ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS OF THE INJECTIONS?

There are rarely side effects reported while using HCG injections for weight loss.  When the HCG injections are used for fertility reasons, the larger amount is known to cause occasional headaches and pregnancy symptoms.  However, the amount differences between the HCG diet protocol and HCG used for fertility purposes is significantly different in quantity.  It is a recommendation you do use some sort of birth control while going through this program.

WHY DOES THE NUTRIONAL DIET NEED TO BE 500 CALORIES PER DAY?

The HCG injections cause your hypothalamus to mobilize the fat out of the fat storage locations so that it's available for use.  While you are only consuming 500 calories per day, your hypothalamus is continually releasing the fat stored in your body.  Because of this, your body is actually operating on thousands of calories a day.  The result is your body uses thousands of calories of fat from your body each day, the reason the program will allow you to lose 1- to 2-pounds of fat or more per day.  So following the dietary recommendations is REQUIRED in order for the program to work. It is common for mild hunger during the first few days to occur, however this will pass and by the 2nd week and you will find even very tiny servings, to be completely satisfying.  This is partly due to your hypothalamus adjusting your metabolic rate, but largely due to the amount of calories circulating in your system from the fat being released.  It is common that our clients feel as though they are stuffing themselves in order to even reach that 500 calorie limit.

We do recommend the nutritional testing and supplement protocols in order to help you curve potential cravings and replace nutrients you might otherwise require outside of your food intake while doing the program. There is also support available with the acupuncture once a week to help stabilize hormone fluctuation, mood changes and cravings if they arise.

PREVENTING WEIGHT GAIN AFTER THE PROGRAM IS DONE

After the HCG diet, not only will you lose physical weight, but former clients that have done the program have also reported a change for the better in appetite and a natural course of modified eating behavior.  They also report this program as being an ideal situation for easily transitioning into a healthy relationship with food.

With all of these changes and experiences, the HCG Diet is the perfect opportunity to adopt a healthy lifestyle to maintain your weight.  There is no reason you should not maintain your weight loss and new lifestyle, so as long as you have replaced any former negative eating and inactive lifestyle habits with new, healthy perspectives on food and exercise.
